A reflection on my days as a community nurse

I had a patient who needed at-home care and I was the nurse admitting him tohome-care services. He was a surly gentlemen who had gone through a terrible cancer ordeal and was now in recovery.

He didnt want me to be there, wouldnt answer any questions, etc. But eventually, as time went on and with me making an honest effort to have patience, he warmed up, enjoyed my visits and requested me to help him through to his discharge.

It was a wake up call for me that everyone is going through something; dont always take things personally people work through things in their own way and need time. Sometimes the most intolerable people become the most rewarding relationships because you stuck it out; everyone is human and should be treated as equals.
