Caregivers

Caregivers you can feel confident about

Every Caregiver on our platform goes through a thoughtful screening and qualification process before they can provide care to families - so you can always feel confident knowing who’s coming into your home.

Our approach

Care starts with the right person

Finding someone to care for a loved one is about more than matching proximity and availability. It's about trust.

That's why we take the time to understand each Caregiver's qualifications, experience and suitability before they become available to families.

You shouldn't have to wonder who's walking through your door.

Screening

Screening & Onboarding

Every Caregiver goes through a structured screening process before they can provide care through the Vidal Home Care platform.

  1. 01

    Identity Verification

We verify each Caregiver's identity and personal information before they move forward in the onboarding process.

  2. 02

    Certification Verification

Caregivers must provide and verify their required certifications, including PSW certification and current First Aid/CPR certification.

  3. 03

    Background & Vulnerable Sector Screening

Caregivers undergo background screening, including a Vulnerable Sector Check, to help ensure they are suitable to provide care in a family's home.

  4. 04

    Video Assessment

Caregivers complete a short video assessment, giving us an opportunity to evaluate their communication, professionalism and approach to care.

  5. 05

    Knowledge & Standards Test

Caregivers complete a test covering our expectations around care, privacy, professionalism and safety. They must successfully complete the quiz before becoming active.

  6. 06

    Ongoing Standards & Training

Screening doesn't end when a Caregiver is approved. We expect Caregivers to maintain their required certifications and keep training and credentials up to date as needed. Ongoing standards help ensure Caregivers continue to meet Vidal's expectations for quality and professionalism.

Qualifications

Certified Personal Support Workers

All applicants must be Personal Support Workers who hold a certificate from a recognized Ontario Personal Support Worker program that meets the educational standards established by:

  • The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities National Association of Career Colleges (NACC), or
  • Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC), or
  • Ontario Community Support Association (OCSA).

Additionally, all applicants must be CPR and First Aid Certified.

Qualified for the care they provide

Care needs vary from family to family. So do Caregiver qualifications.

At a minimum, all Caregivers are certified PSWs. Some Caregivers may have additional or higher level training, such as:

  • Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs)
  • Registered Nurses (RNs)
  • U-First!®
  • Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA)®
  • Palliative Care / End-of-Life Care
  • Food Handler Certification
  • Medication Assistance / Medication Management Training
  • Falls Prevention & Management
  • Lift & Transfer Training
  • Skin & Wound Care Training
  • Continence Care
  • Parkinson's Care Training

Our platform matches families with specialized care needs to Caregivers with relevant experience supporting conditions such as dementia, Parkinson's disease, mobility limitations and other care requirements.

Screened doesn't mean one-size-fits-all

A Caregiver can be qualified and still not be the right fit for your family.

Matching factors

  • Care needs
  • Experience and qualifications
  • Availability
  • Location
  • Language
  • Personality and communication style
  • Specialized experience

Our goal isn't simply to find someone who can provide care. It's to help you find someone who is a good fit for the person receiving it.

Your experience matters

We invite families to share feedback about their care experience after each visit.

Your feedback helps us maintain high standards, identify concerns, and continually improve the experience for both families and Caregivers.

It also helps other families make informed decisions when choosing care. If you have a concern about a Caregiver or the care being provided, you can contact us directly.
